🇺🇸 Trump Faces Legal Fight Over White House Press Access
President Donald Trump’s administration is facing a new legal challenge after CNN, MS NOW and Politico sued over their exclusion from the White House grounds.
The three news organizations filed a lawsuit in federal court on Monday, September 21, arguing that the administration violated their First Amendment rights by blocking their journalists in response to coverage the president has criticized as “fake news.” They are seeking a temporary court order that would restore their access while the broader case proceeds.
The dispute began after Trump announced on September 18 that the three outlets would be banned from the White House. Their reporters were subsequently turned away and, in some cases, had their press credentials deactivated or confiscated.
The White House has defended the decision, arguing that press organizations have the right to publish their reports but do not have an automatic entitlement to White House credentials or access. Trump has maintained that his action was directed at what he considers inaccurate reporting, rather than an attack on freedom of the press.
The case is now set to test the limits of presidential authority over White House press access and the constitutional protections afforded to journalists. A hearing on the outlets’ request for temporary relief is scheduled for Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
