The fire broke out during the early hours of Monday near Galesburg in Neosho County.

Firefighters were initially dispatched to what was reported as a grass fire near U.S.

Highway 59 and 80th Road, but as emergency crews raced toward the area, the call was upgraded to a structure fire.

By the time firefighters arrived, the home had already been heavily consumed by flames.

Dillon, Isabella and little Easton were later confirmed dead, turning an ordinary summer morning into a nightmare for relatives, friends and neighbors.

But the tragedy would soon reach far beyond southeast Kansas.

As word of the deaths spread, stories began circulating about the family’s love for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Friends described the Evans family as passionate supporters who enjoyed following the team together, making football Sundays a family tradition.

Then came an announcement that stunned the grieving community.

The Kansas City Chiefs said the organization would cover the full funeral and memorial expenses for all three victims.
