BREAKING: TRUMP ANNOUNCES NEW GREENLAND SECURITY AGREEMENT
President Donald Trump has announced a new security agreement involving the United States, Denmark and Greenland, describing it as a major step toward strengthening American security interests in the Arctic.
According to reports, the agreement would allow the United States to significantly expand its military presence in Greenland while preventing countries such as Russia and China from establishing military bases or making certain sensitive investments on the strategically important island.
Trump said the deal gives the United States permanent control over Greenland’s security and allows Washington to take necessary measures to protect American and regional interests. However, Danish and Greenlandic officials have stressed that the agreement does not transfer sovereignty over Greenland to the United States.
The deal is expected to be formally signed during the United Nations General Assembly in New York and will still require the necessary parliamentary procedures before taking effect.
The announcement marks a significant development after months of tension surrounding Trump’s repeated calls for greater U.S. control over Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.
