Taylor Swift made her first Saturday Night Live appearance in three years, popping up during host Dakota Johnson’s opening monologue.

Taylor Swift made a surprise return to Saturday Night Live this weekend, marking her first appearance on the long-running comedy show in three years.

The pop superstar unexpectedly joined host Dakota Johnson during the actress’ opening monologue on Saturday, October 3, turning the moment into one of the night’s biggest surprises. Swift’s last SNL appearance came in October 2023, when she briefly appeared during the show hosted by Pete Davidson.

Johnson, who was hosting SNL for the third time, used much of her monologue to joke about her dating history. She referenced her past relationships with musicians Chris Martin and Role Model, joking that while some people leave concerts with merchandise, she leaves them with long-term relationships.

As Johnson talked about having supportive friends who never judged her romantic choices, Swift suddenly walked onto the stage.

“Ladies and gentlemen, my literal therapist,” Johnson joked while introducing her friend.

Swift quickly corrected her, explaining that she was not actually Johnson’s therapist. Instead, she jokingly described Johnson as someone who regularly arrives at her house with an empty bottle of wine, flops onto her couch and overshares about her life.

The exchange continued with both stars playing along with the joke, with Swift portraying herself as the friend who simply responds, “Damn, that’s crazy,” before eventually giving Johnson some Pedialyte and having security drive her home.

The surprise cameo was particularly fitting because Swift and Johnson have become close friends and recently appeared together in Swift’s “Patient Zero” music video. Johnson also presented Swift with an honor at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards just days earlier.

Swift’s surprise fashion moment

Swift also attracted attention for her appearance, stepping onto the SNL stage in a plaid off-the-shoulder mini dress paired with a belt and knee-high boots. Her appearance came shortly after she debuted her shorter hairstyle at recent public events.

The singer later returned during the broadcast to present Johnson with a birthday cake, adding another personal touch to the surprise appearance. Johnson’s birthday was October 4.

Swift’s unexpected SNL return quickly became one of the most talked-about moments from the episode, with fans celebrating the reunion between two friends who have recently been sharing the spotlight on several major occasions.
