So much has been said about the three-time Super Bowl champion’s ability to read opponents, read plays and execute them superbly to deliver unprecedented success to the 28-year-old’s team, but far less is said about his college performance, which he was also skilled at. Mahomes made sure he took his education seriously, being aware of the fragile career of a sports star, and maintained a great 3.91 grade point average at the Texas Tech University, despite being bound for the millions of dollars offered by gridiron football.

Patrick Mahomes’ mother says she’s why he’s so smart as he excelled throughout high school and college classrooms on his way to many dates with destiny with the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL. Mahomes made sure he took his education seriously, being aware of the fragile career of a sports star, and maintained a great 3.91 grade point average at the Texas Tech University, despite being bound for the millions of dollars offered by gridiron football.

“He started getting college credits at Tyler Junior College when he was still in high school,” Randi Mahomes told Tyler Today. “I wanted it to be his decision. “I did not want to encourage the wrong decision, one he might regret later in life; however, there is no secret that I always wanted Patrick to get an education. “His father and I both missed out on college, and I did not want that to happen to Patrick. With a degree in hand, Patrick figured he’d win either way.”

At the end of college, Mahomes was selected by the Chiefs as the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and from there, he went on to claim rings in 2019, 2022 and 2023 with two MVP awards, three Super Bowl MVP awards and three All-Pro picks. He’s now making a killing, earning a reported $45m a season since 2020 and this will continue until 2030 at the minimum unless he decides to renegotiate again.

Money is no longer an issue, and he can focus on becoming the best quarterback ever, but his mother remains proud of his brains and now his brawn.
