“Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is set to replace San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy on the NFC squad for the Pro Bowl Games.”
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will take the place of San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy on the NFC squad for the Pro Bowl Games.A replacement was required for Purdy with the Niners advancing to Super Bowl LVIII.
This is the second Pro Bowl nod in as many years for Hurts. He followed up his breakout 2022 campaign by throwing for 3,858 yards, 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while running for 605 yards and 15 scores.
In general, Hurts justified why Philadelphia handed him what at the time was a record-setting five-year, $255 million contract, though one could argue his season was a bit of a mixed bag.
His interception total more than doubled compared to 2022, and his production tailed off as the Eagles lost five of their final six games. During that stretch, the 25-year-old had a 77.6 passer rating while averaging fewer than 200 yards per contest.
ESPN’s Tim McManus detailed how for a variety of reasons Hurts, head coach Nick Sirianni and offensive coordinator Brian Johnson simply weren’t on the same page.
Sirianni responded by letting Johnson go and reportedly hiring former Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. The coach told reporters last week a level of introspection is required for everybody inside the franchise and he expects Hurts to head into the offseason focused on improving.
