Micah Parsons’ injury status revealed
Star edge rusher Micah Parsons suffered a high ankle sprain during the fourth quarter of the Cowboys’ victory over the Giants. New York lineman Greg Van Roten fell onto Parsons’ left ankle while in pass protection, and the three-time Pro Bowl selection had to be carted off in response to the painful injury.
A high ankle sprain involves damage to the ligaments that connect the tibia to the fibula. It can be a tricky injury for any athlete, and Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told the media that he initially did not expect Parsons’ injury to be quite as bad as it is.
However, Parsons’ high ankle sprain is far from a season-ending injury. He is expected to miss Dallas’ next two games — at Pittsburgh and home to Detroit — before the Cowboys’ Week 7 bye. In Week 8, the Cowboys visit the San Francisco 49ers, four weeks out from Parsons’ injury — and NFL insider Ian Rapoport believes that is a “pretty decent” target date for the player’s return.
However, that date is by no means set in stone, and the Cowboys will be hoping Parsons’ recovery goes to plan — and that the much-maligned Dallas defense stays afloat in the absence of such an influential and feared player.
